Youth Opportunities Unlimited aims to provide a stable home for youth, young expectant moms, and new mothers and babies, at the most vulnerable time in their lives. Located in Central London, The New Addition will provide safe and affordable homes for those experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness, and will act as an integrated program hub focused on physical and mental health, employment, education, and training. Volunteers, partners, and staff resources will work together to offer mentoring, community engagement, supportive parenting, and personal development.
The proposed project will extend a pilot currently being run at YOU’s existing supportive housing building in Downtown London (the ‘Cornerstone’). YOU is seeking to develop a supportive home in a new 40+ unit building for youth and young mothers.
The New Addition will be located at 329, 331, and 333 Richmond Street in Downtown London (across from the Cornerstone).
The building will be comprised of one-bedroom, accessible one-bedroom and two-bedroom self-contained units as well as ancillary space for YOU’s programming. The ground floor will house YOU’s administrative offices and partner programming.
A community where youth are embraced and will thrive.
YOU supports youth to build skills, confidence and independence to reach their potential.
In all it does, YOU remains:
Supported by an $8.2 million campaign for the future. With hope and stability today, wellness, skills, and confidence can be built for the future.
The proposed affordable supportive housing complex will be designed to serve single youth, single young mothers with children, and single young mothers-to-be who are at risk of homelessness and are in need of affordable housing with supports in the downtown London area. In most cases, this property would be promoted to potential tenants between the ages of 16 and 24 who are receiving Ontario Works support and young singles with low-income.
YOU is a non-profit, registered charity which has been providing youth-focused services in London, Ontario and Middlesex County since 1982; helping 3,000 young people annually achieve educational, training, employment and personal development goals.
Youth that are at risk of homelessness require specific supports and resources so they can regain a clear path to confidence and independence. There are many ways to support the YOU New Addition so we can extend a the helping hand young moms and mothers to be need.
